Flooring & tile calculators

Everything for floors and walls — find your square footage, then how many boxes or tiles to buy (with a waste allowance), plus the thinset, grout, carpet, or epoxy to finish the job.

Getting an accurate flooring estimate

Almost every flooring and tile job starts the same way: measure the area. Work out each room's square footage (length × width) and add them up, then divide by what one box or tile covers and add a waste allowance for cuts. Tile jobs also need thinset to set the tile and grout to fill the joints — both depend on tile and trowel or joint size — so estimate them alongside the tile itself.

Buy a little extra and from a single batch, so colors match and you keep spares for future repairs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I figure out how much flooring or tile to buy?
Measure each room's square footage (length × width) and add them, then divide by the box or tile coverage and add ~10% waste. The calculators above do the math.
How much waste should I add?
About 10% for a straight layout, ~15% for diagonal or patterned. Buy one batch so the shade matches.
