If one thing settles this choice, it's how each surface ages. A concrete patio is a single rigid slab, so ground movement and freeze-thaw cycles tend to show up as cracks, and de-icing salts can spall (flake) the surface. Patching a crack is rarely invisible, and a failed slab is a big, costly fix. A paver patio is dozens or hundreds of small units over a flexible base, so the same ground movement is absorbed across the joints instead of cracking the field. If a paver chips or a spot settles, you lift that unit, fix the base, and drop it back — no demolition. That's why pavers are the safer bet in cold, freeze-thaw climates.
Looks, install & maintenance
Pavers offer the most design freedom — shapes, colors, borders, and laying patterns like herringbone or basketweave — and they're usable the moment they're set. Concrete pours fast but needs about a week to cure before use, and its plain finish only gets decorative with added stamping or coloring. On upkeep, pavers ask for the occasional top-up of polymeric joint sand and a pulled weed or two, while concrete benefits from periodic sealing and the inevitable crack repair.
